Thesis (Psy.D.)--Capella University, 2011.
This study examined the relationship between emotional intelligence, personality type, and job performance utilizing self-report survey instruments, the Emotional Quotient Inventory: Short (EQ-i: S; Bar-On, 2002) and Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), (Myers & McCaulley, 1985). Employees' job performance was determined based on their most recent annual performance ratings. The study included a base sample of 267 employees from a local government nonprofit social services agency. Of the 267 employees approached, 59 of them agreed to participate in this study. The study aims to assist employers with selection and recruitment of new employees and to provide training and awareness to current employees. Identifying and recruiting exemplary employees is a major concern for most organizations. Selecting the right employee or perfect fit is viewed as a key component for success in most organizations, especially in organizations whose main purpose is to provide direct service to the public on a daily basis. For most nonprofit social services agencies, employees who provide direct service to the public or customer base are seen as one of the organization's most valuable resource. Descriptive statistics and several statistical techniques including Spearman's rho/correlation, analysis of variance and chi-square were used to obtain the mean and standard deviation of the variables job performance, personality type and level of EQ.
