For parents, the death of one of their children is a life-changing event that leaves the parent wondering where to turn for support. Friends and family members cannot understand the depth of the emotion the bereaved parents' experience. Bereaved parents often find that their normal means of social support are not adequate to their needs and seek other avenues to find support. In the Internet age, some parents have found grief support sites as a resource in their journey through grief. The qualitative study seeks to examine the experience of a convenience sample of parents who participate in one such online grief support site to discover what factors are present in the environment that bereaved parents find helpful. The participants of the study were sent a link to a brief questionnaire consisting of several open-ended questions asking the participants to describe their experience in the online chat and how it has helped in their grief. NVivo9, qualitative research software, was used to organize the data into themes and categories. The results of the data were used to attempt to understand what factors are present in the online environment that support bereaved parents in their journey through grief. It is hoped that these factors can be translated to other support environments to help further understand the grief process bereaved parents' experience.
