Fine art valuation field is full of professionals who use time-tested methods to price works of art. A gap has been discovered in this field and an empirical study has been designed to illustrate this gap and provide a solution. Contemporary practices for evaluating art do not emphasize color enough, the research to follow shows that color plays a large role in how the human brain perceives, understands and enjoys a piece of art. The study: auction results for Abstract Color Field paintings have been tallied and the works have been grouped by esthetic: dark and vibrant, dark and pale, light and vibrant, light and pale, along with primary and secondary. These groups have been divided further by auction results: sold below the estimated price, within the estimated price, above the estimated price or bought in. That data has afforded conclusions that color can affect a work of art's ability to sell at auction. Collectors are regularly drawn to a work by its color and it is important for the art market to begin to recognize and understand how and why this happens.
