The purpose of this study was to determine if there were significant differences in cigarette smoking patterns between college students with disabilities and college students without disabilities with respect to gender, age, ethnicity, and type of disability. This study utilized secondary data from the American College Health Association - National College Health Assessment II survey, which had 763 student participants from Fresno State and a 19.2% response rate. The Pearson Chi-square Test with Yates Correction Factor was used to test for significance among the variables of gender, age, ethnicity, and type of disability.

The study found that there were no statistically significant differences in cigarette smoking patterns among college students with disabilities and college students without disabilities with respect to race/ethnicity and type of disability. However, the study did find statistically significant differences in cigarette smoking patterns among college students with disabilities and college students without disabilities, as well as with the variables of gender and age. These results suggest that college students with disabilities have a higher prevalence of cigarette smoking as compared to college students without disabilities. However, several limitations must be taken into consideration prior to making generalizations regarding this study.
