Adolescence is a unique developmental period that has a significant impact on long-term outcomes. Adolescents are faced with an enormous amount of changes in this development period. These changes can lead to serious mental health problems and detrimental behaviors. It is important to look at factors that can promote or inhibit adolescents' well-being. This study sought to investigate parent-adolescent relationships and impulse control as potential factors that contribute to optimal well-being. The data was collected by a longitudinal study conducted by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development called Study of Early Child Care and Youth Development. The sample consisted of 990 adolescents at age 15. The results indicated that impulse control may be a mediating factor between the bidirectional relationship of parent-adolescent relationships and adolescent well-being. The findings of this study contributed a deeper understanding of factors affecting well-being and help develop potential interventions for the prevention of negative outcomes.
