This study looked at the relationship between body awareness and mental toughness in collegiate athletes. Current understanding of mental toughness does not specifically attend to implicit information emanating from sensing one's body awareness. The hypothesis was that body awareness would have a significant and positive relationship with mental toughness in collegiate athletes. Correlational analysis was done using a total of 115 participants who completed the Body Intelligence Scale (BIS) and the Mental Toughness Questionnaire 48 (MTQ48). The study's results significantly and positively support this hypothesis. Other hypotheses studied indicated that body awareness significantly and positively relates to mental toughness components of control, challenge, and confidence, though commitment was not significantly related. Male athletes significantly associated body awareness with components of control and challenge. Female athletes significantly related body awareness with components of control and confidence. Research exploring these diverse dynamics is needed to capture the full essence of using an embodied strategy for the purpose of enhancing mental toughness.
