To what extent do we understand the "opt-out" phenomenon and its implications for females seeking quality of life as they journey through life? This study builds on the research about this phenomenon and advances it through interviews with fifteen women after they have left a corporate career or position in a large organization and started an entrepreneurial organization. The women's responses illuminate details about corporate culture and the misalignment of values present in that context. These females have embarked on an entrepreneurial journey in search of a culture and context that was better aligned with their value system. This new arena has led to a satisfactory quality of life, and the women describe this process as well as the feelings associated with it. Additionally, they offer insight into the traits and attributes that have made them successful entrepreneurs, thus sustaining the environment now associated with quality of life. The stories have implications for the field of organization development and for women in management and those aspiring to embark on an entrepreneurial journey.
