Thesis (Ph.D.)--Capella University, 2013.
Acting as entrepreneurs, many Indian tribes' in the Sonoran desert have created and grown several business enterprises. No research exists from the perspectives of tribal members as they create and manage enterprises as a benefit showing if and how the enterprises are consistent with the cultural values of the tribe. Given this gap in the literature, this study utilized an exploratory qualitative inquiry to identify, understand, and characterize one nation's business enterprise initiatives and how they are related to tribal values, using culture, assimilation, ethics, and entrepreneurship. The findings indicate the existing social responsibility, as understood by members of the tribe. To complement the findings here, a quantitative study is recommended with a larger sample to better understand the predominant views regarding the enterprises and how the cultural values are viewed in light of the benefits derived from the enterprises.
