The American people rely on the government and the military for national security, of which cyber security is a part. The government has cyber security efforts and initiatives in place, as does the military. However, the sectors of academia and private industry also have much to offer when it comes to national cyber security. The purpose of this study was to demonstrate what each of the sectors (government, military, private industry, and academia) contributes to the domain of cyber security. To address the problem, each sector's cyber security efforts were studied, as well as varied collaboration efforts among them. The findings showed that although the government holds the ultimate responsibility for national cyber security, the government is mostly concerned with protecting the .gov networks, which make up only a fraction of the nation's cyber resources. Likewise, the military is concerned with protecting the .mil networks, but the overwhelming majority of the nation's cyber resources reside in the .com domain. The findings also showed the importance of collaboration among the sectors because each has unique and essential contributions to the national cyber security posture.
