Thesis (Ph.D.)--The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, 2013.
In recent years, servant leadership and emotional intelligence have gained increasing attention in academic and organizational literature. With the hope of adding to the existing literature, the purpose of this quantitative study was to explore whether a relationship exists between servant leadership and emotional intelligence, while at the same time exploring the predictive ability of these two constructs in relation to cognitive ability. This study used the Organizational Leadership Assessment (OLA)-360, the Emotional Quotient-Inventory, Watson-Glaser Critical Thinking Appraisal, and a performance index score to measure the relationship between servant leadership and emotional intelligence; the relationship between leader success and cognitive ability; and the relationship between servant leadership and emotional intelligence as predictors of leader success above and beyond cognitive ability. While the results of this study were not statistically significant, the findings serve as a point of reference for others who wish to study these constructs quantitatively.
