This research investigated the relationship between emotional intelligence (EI) and engagement. Further, it explored predictor variables on overall performance. Literature reviews indicate that there is more than academic intelligence is required when managing relationships, or even attempting to find solutions to problems. Research has shown that emotional intelligence is based on how people deal with life using their varying abilities of perception, understanding, and management of those emotions. Research indicates that organizations are now realizing that emotional intelligence needs to be developed in those that are in the leadership roles, such as managers and supervisors, in order for organizations to have the best chance of success and high performance. Literature indicates that a leader's ability to influence others is an important element for achieving goals and being effective. In addition, research indicates that the ability to self-manage emotions and demonstrate the ability to control mood and feelings productively, while staying motivated and focused on any obstacle is associated with high levels of emotional intelligence. Therefore, this research explored the relationship between emotional intelligence and engagement; with further analysis to explore predictor variables on overall performance which would be beneficial to all companies that are interested in increasing their success.
