Empirical evidence has found an increase in work-life conflicts within outsourced environments. It is important to address the increase in conflict to reduce negative effects on businesses. Guided by the theoretical frameworks of the spillover, conflict management, and resource dependency theories, the purpose of the study was to examine how employees' awareness of work-life balance, management of work activities, and program usage predicted work-life conflict in an outsourcing environment. A nonexperimental quantitative design was employed, using a simple random sampling of secondary data from a Washington, DC-based organization. The target population was based on secondary data of an organization that has been involved in outsourcing for more than 10 years. The predictor variables included employees' work-life balance awareness, management of work activities, and program usage. The criterion variable was work-life conflict. Potential mediating variables were examined as part of the inferential analysis. Regression analysis was used to determine the nature of the relationship between the predictor and criterion variables. The results showed no relationship between employees' awareness of work-life balance programs and any increase in work-life conflict. There was a relationship between the management of work activities and work-life conflict, and between employees' usage of work-life balance programs and work-life conflict. There was no mediating effect between the variables. This study promotes positive social change by providing a greater understanding for business leaders in addressing the effects of work-life conflict on business and social environments.
