Particle swarm optimization was used along with the emission absorption method to retrieve the temperature profile of a radiating exhaust gas. Calculated temperatures varied from measured temperatures by less than 4 percent. An uncertainty analysis was performed and it was shown that uncertainty added temperature calculations varied from measured values by less than 9 percent.
