While not all of the results were surprising, many of them were well-informed as well as being entertaining. It is clear that those studied are passionate, and very opinionated. There is no question that the subjects in this study take their fandom seriously and many feel that they have the answers needed for the Boston Red Sox to succeed and win the Major League Baseball World Series.

The results show that the sports fan, and people in general, have quickly acclimated to and learned how to use the new technology. Translating this skill to practical use, such as on the job, remains to be seen. It also shows, by the frequency of subject names on any given chat page, that certain segments of the population spend many hours using CMC. While this might hamper face-to-face social interaction, new virtual communities and even friendships have developed because of CMC.
