This project critically analyzed the literature concerning indigenous archaeology, case studies that took an indigenous archaeology approach, and incorporated information from interviews with Native Americans and archaeologists. This information was used to elucidate the concept of indigenous archaeology in the United States, compare and contrast the assumptions of Native Americans and archaeologists concerning archaeology, and theorize as to the potential for collaborative efforts between Native Americans and archaeologists.
