Applications in the field of computer vision employ computers to assist in tasks which require interpretation of visual information. This thesis addresses laboratory experiments at an insect lab which grows insect larvae to study the effects of biotoxin on insects. A computer vision algorithm processes digital photographs of experiments with the intent of classifying the insects as alive or dead, and classifying their larval instar stage. This thesis evaluates neural network models and statistical models as two alternative methods to reach this goal.Subjects--Topical Terms:
