Thesis (Psy.D.)--Fuller Theological Seminary, School of Psychology, 2004.
Several studies have shown that women are generally invisible in the history of psychology and that psychology instructors tend to rely heavily on textbooks to organize their classes. Therefore, textbooks may represent the most visible and influential force shaping the perception of psychology's history. The researcher surveyed 38 history of psychology textbooks, published between 1930 and 2003, for the inclusion of women. Results indicate that the number and percentage of women included in the texts have increased significantly since 1979. Author provides suggestions for further research and support for maintaining and increasing women's visibility in psychology.Subjects--Topical Terms:
