This work explores what type of changes occur in the psychological-emotional and perceptual processes of the individual related to the somatic (musculo-skeletal) structure of the individual. I propose a therapeutic model that utilizes Neuro-Linguistic Programming and Somatics, the changes of the physical structure of the body. Neuro-Linguistic Programming integrates mind and body as a cybernetic (holistic) system, with a systematic methodology to investigate and describe human experience. With this phenomenological study I have investigated the relationship between the subjective, experiential-psychological processes, especially the self-image and schema of an individual and the somatic structure and processes of the body. I interviewed subjects (N = 15) prior to and immediately after a session of Reichian breathing to determine its effect on self-image and schema. The subjects experienced a change in self-perception that indicated an increase in self-regard. This led to the creation of a holographic model of human experience that provides a system for organizing perceptions, the meanings associated with them, and their relationship to the somatic structure (the body).Subjects--Topical Terms:
