This study was conducted in a Montessori school in the northeastern part of the United States. The study was qualitative in nature. The amount of time devoted to the creation of art surrounding the client's illness and discussing her condition was measured quantitatively. It was hypothesized that increasing levels of personal expression would emerge as art therapy continued.

Based on the information compiled, the research clearly illustrated that as time progressed, there was an increase in the amount of feelings shared and discussed regarding the child's condition. It was evident that art therapy was successful in allowing the child to express feelings and to discover better coping mechanisms.
