The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of once-a-week and twice-a-week frequencies on high-intensity training (HIT) for mass lifted (ML) over a 10-week period. Subjects (age 18--30 years) trained 2 days/week with 1-set (N = 11) or 1 day/week with 1-set (N = 10) of 6--10 repetitions to muscular failure, using the 45° leg press. A time-under-tension (TUT) of 50--70 s was used to measure increases in ML. Results showed no significant (p ≤ .05) ML increase between once and twice-a-week groups (p ≤ .986). Although both groups significantly increased ML (p ≤ .0001), the twice-a-week group showed greater improvements. An interaction was found to be significant (p ≤ .027) within groups. Lifting twice a week on HIT leads to greater increases in ML compared to lifting once a week in novice females.Subjects--Topical Terms:
