Thesis (M.S.)--Southern Connecticut State University, 2003.
The purpose of this investigation was to determine if seasonal training of basketball players will affect their Visual Reaction Time (VRT). Twenty four male subjects participated in this study with a mean +/-S.D. age of 16.5 +/- 1.5 years. The E group consisted of 12 high school students who were on the varsity or junior varsity basketball team. The C group consisted of 12 high school students who did not participate in competitive sports. VRT tests were taken eight times during the school year. Results indicated that VRT was significantly faster in the E group (191.1 +/- 19.2 msec) than the C group (233.5 +/- 57.8 msec) during the fourth test period, p ≤ 0.05. This study agrees with past research which concluded that athletes possess quicker VRT than non-athletes; however, other studies have also proven that no significant difference exists between the groups. It is evident that further research still needs to be conducted on VRT.Subjects--Topical Terms:
