The objective of this study is to examine how selected leaders of both faith-based and secular organizations relate their spirituality to their leadership mission, formation and experience in their efforts to transform organizations. Using concepts drawn from the literature on human development, management and leadership, organization theory and emerging literature on the role of spirituality in the workplace, the study applied a working conceptual framework to in-depth and intensive interviews with eight senior officials in eight distinct organizations.Subjects--Topical Terms:

520 $a The principle findings of this study include the emphasis leaders place on the central role of spirituality in their leadership and organization work, the perspective that such spirituality is inseparable from their personal commitment to excellence in organizations and the need for leaders to claim and nourish spiritual growth as a part of leadership and managerial growth and performance in organizations.
520 $a Based on these findings, the study offers a critique of several current leadership models and proposes a new model of Priest-King Leadership derived from the analysis of the data.
