The purpose of this research study is to examine the experience of injurers when they communicate an apology to a party they perceive themselves to have injured, utilizing a phenomenological and self-hermeneutics approach to discovery. The literature review covers areas of research on apology, forgiveness, and self-forgiveness.

The researcher's relationship to the inquiry is explored by bracketing her own biases and assumptions in relation to the topic of the study.

The themes that surface from the three interviewers are triangulated with the researcher's experience and with the findings from the literature.
