Progressions focuses on the construction, deconstruction, and manipulation of imagery in motion, how an individual observes and gazes at movements recorded from the camera's perspective, and how this prolonged gazing affects a person experiencing these instances within a specific environment. Progressions is an investigation of those differences that lie between real and virtual movement impressed upon the viewer as one experiences this constructed space. The imagery is a mesh of subjects recorded through various motion capturing techniques, which are then edited together utilizing the multitude of historical strategies used in time-based media, such as spatial montage, speed manipulation, looping, exposure variants, etc. This investigation is further aimed at learning how these movements creatively affect the way we see and feel, as well as how they manipulate one another. The incorporation of digital video imagery and projection, along with ideas and interpretations concerning ‘the screen’ and numerous discussions and theories on ‘the gaze’, will create a three-dimensional environment aimed at challenging the way we experience and interact with movement through space.Subjects--Topical Terms:
