Teachers' responses indicated that most believed that a wide range of behaviors constituted bullying. Among these behaviors, verbal was most recognized as bullying. Teachers reported that bullying rarely occurred in the classroom, however, emotional bullying occurred with the most frequency. Teachers reported bullying was most likely to occur at recess followed by in the restrooms. Teachers were most likely to respond to bullying by ascribing responsibility to the bully and only about half of the teachers reported bullying prevention programs in their schools. There are few sociodemographic differences in terms of how teachers perceived and responded to bullying. Implications for social work practice and suggestions for future research are discussed.
