This research study was undertaken to identify themes that emerge from interviews exploring how women report beliefs about managing menopause and issues that impact their decision regarding hormone replacement therapy (HRT) use. Five women between the ages of 45 and 51, who were at or approaching menopause and deciding about HRT, who had an intact uterus, and who had no history of breast cancer were recruited for participation. The Health Belief Model was used as the theoretical framework. An interview with each participant was guided by a schedule of open-ended questions. Content analysis was used to analyze the data. The results suggested that health administrators develop programs geared toward helping women understand the risks and benefits of HRT.
