The practicum experience I had with the Division of Human Resources Management of the NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), led me through various activities associated with Human Resources training and development function. The practicum provided an opportunity for me to experience professional growth and practical skills that are required in the training and development function. I embarked on various projects and assignments under the guidance and supervision of a training and development professional who assisted me in achieving my objectives. The projects included: developing a job description for a Director of Training and Development, interviewing managers at various levels on their training and development needs, using both primary and secondary resources to study training trends at DEP over the last five years, conducting a comparative study of training and development in ten Mayoral agencies and private organizations and the DEP, attending training seminars, and learning and observing the date-to-day operation in the Office of Training and Development.
