Thesis (Ph.D.)--Bowling Green State University, 2004.
In this manuscript, some of the pertinent theoretical and psychometric issues surrounding the modeling of change over time have been explicated. Specifically, issues of interest to longitudinal researchers in the social sciences, such as the assessment of the stability of attributes and the distinction between states and traits, have been discussed. Statistical models for the measurement and analysis of longitudinal data were then built around the framework of the longitudinal true score model and linked to the aforementioned theoretical issues. A series of empirical examples have also been provided to illustrate the various longitudinal statistical models and the central concepts and issues. Finally, by presenting a broad variety of longitudinal models under the same general framework and in one manuscript, it is hoped that the similarities and differences, along with the relative merits and weakness of these models have been illuminated.
