Thesis (Ph.D.)--California Institute of Integral Studies, 2004.
This work of creative nonfiction is a weaving of writing, pottery and women's spirituality. Both pottery and writing are visual arts, spiritual practices of mindfulness, and bearers of story. Grounded in integral scholarship manifesting as a unique, self-generated methodology, its' genesis is the story of my journey, exploring the mystery of writing and pottery as expressions of soul as artist. The result was personal transformation. My pilgrimage into soul as artist for this project began in the pottery studio and culminated in six events; four juried shows, a one-woman show and participating in a student show/sale. Additionally, an article written as part of this project "Well Crafted Plates...and More!" was published in Clay Times , Jan/Feb, 2003. This studio work acted as a catalyst to further explore soul as artist by immersion in the art of writing creative nonfiction. The unique, self-generated research methodology, embraces the literary tradition of observation, reflection, action, research, reading and writing and is further informed by aspects from the transpersonal inquiry methods of integral, intuitive and organic inquiry, as well as the Buddhist concept of Dharma Art. My pilgrimage into the mystery of soul is brought to voice via the art of creative nonfiction, embracing story, poem, memoir, dialogue, reflective, personal, critical and academic essays.
