This research was concerned with sexual harassment (SH) and cognitive perceptions of Department of Defense supervisors. The researcher presented subjects with a vignette that included a male military supervisor and female subordinate in a situation that incorporated elements of sexual harassment. Subjects were then interviewed and asked to explain their thoughts and feelings in relation to the vignette. A case study methodology was used to evaluate subject responses. Findings indicate that supervisors may know to avoid exhibiting certain inappropriate behaviors, but cognitively may harbor sexually harassing thoughts that are manifested in more insidious ways. Supervisors may conceal their thoughts and feelings, making it difficult for subordinates to prove inappropriate behavior when a reportable situation arises.
