For several years now emotional intelligence has received an ever-greater level of attention from both the academic community and the professional business world. In this study of emotional intelligence, the area of military recruiting is researched utilizing an active working population involved in the difficult sales challenge of service to country.

520 $a A comprehensive literature review is presented with six major areas of emotional intelligence which include: elements of emotional intelligence, emotional intelligence in the work place, affect of emotional intelligence, measurements of emotional intelligence and emotional intelligence in performance predictability.
520 $a The theory of emotional intelligence is tested using the research instrument developed by Bar-On (1995). Five primary areas elements of emotional intelligence are measured. These are intrapersonal, adaptability, general mood, interpersonal, and stress management levels of emotional intelligence. These separate functions of emotional intelligence are measured against individual recruiter performance in the field for one year.
