Four research questions which guided this research are: (1) Is there a relationship between a downsizing survivor's perception of organizational justice and higher levels of stress? (2) Is there a relationship between a survivor's perception of job security and stress levels? (3) Is there a relationship between one's perception of organizational morale (as measured in a summary of individual responses) and a survivor's stress level? (4) Is there a relationship between a survivor's stress level and their intent to remain?

The results supported two of the four substantive hypotheses. The study concluded that there is a significant correlation between stress introduced by downsizing activities and its impact on the surviving employees' perception of organizational justice, job security, organizational morale, and an employee's intent to remain with the organization.
