Thesis (Ph.D.)--Lehigh University, 2004.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of an intervention developed to teach time-management skills to four adolescents with mental retardation in an employment setting. A multiple baseline design across participants was used to examine the participants' ability to independently identify time and initiate work-related activities according to the noted time. Intervention took place at each student's work site and involved the use of an alarm watch that sounded at specific intervals to prompt students to check the time. The mean percentage of time management was calculated as measured by a checklist of 15 minute intervals occurring during the work shift. Data were analyzed using visual inspection, descriptive statistics, and calculating the percentage of non-overlapping data points (PND), as well as the rate of progress for each participant using an Ordinary Least Squares regression line. Results indicated that all four participants increased their performance in managing time at work from the baseline condition to the intervention condition. Additionally, each participant demonstrated some generalization of time-management skills to a novel environment.
