The historical foundation of music, technology and social change at the beginning of the Seventeenth Century will first be established. Events that directly influence this relationship will then be examined regarding their influence upon opera development. An explanation of the subjects of music, technology, and social change and a discussion of the interrelationships between these three topics precedes this historical analysis.
