Thesis (Ph.D.)--Fuller Theological Seminary, School of Theology, 2007.
This dissertation is about a theology of the first epistle of Peter. The main theme of the dissertation is how God in three Persons revealed Himself to the Christian believers in Asia Minor who were undergoing various trials and persecution for the sake of Christ. The revelation is expressed not only in theological but also in practical ways. The dissertation is an attempt to explain why the revelation of God in three Persons was important and became the chief divine source of comfort, strength, and power for them to face trials and stand firm in the midst of their sufferings. This dissertation is composed of three main parts, according to the revelation of God in three Persons in the epistle. The first part seeks to demonstrate how God as the Father is related to the lives of the Asia-Minor Christians who are suffering. The role of Jesus Christ as the pre-existent and messianic Son is viewed in the second part in which the relationship between Christ and the Christians is presented, and indeed Christ's human life under suffering for the unrighteous becomes the main example for them to follow in endurance in their time of suffering. And the Holy Spirit is the focus of the third part, in which He is considered as the divine source of comfort and strength for the suffering Christians in the present and as their hope for the fulfillment of the glorious future.
