Thesis (M.S.E.)--The University of Alabama in Huntsville, 2006.
The main objective of this research is to recommend a program of study for The University of Alabama in Huntsville to include in its current selection of undergraduate degrees that will better educate students in the area of design and manufacturing. In this present study, the competency gaps among graduates in manufacturing engineering where noted. Also, industry expectations from graduates in the design and manufacturing sector were analyzed. A study of what various institutions have done to develop or improve their existing programs of study in this field was then conducted. As a result of these studies, a recommendation was made for a program of study to be instituted at The University of Alabama in Huntsville, by modifying the existing program to include courses specifically directed toward enhancing skills that are necessary for manufacturing.
