520 $a A pilot, house church project was designed to research a small group template for spiritual development and was applied in three settings---home, church and doctor office. A Heuristic method of research determined the elements needed for a new church model and new theological stance, beyond doctrine and dogma. What new consciousness and new formations support a deep and practical spirituality with a foundation in the life and teachings of Jesus Christ?
520 $a Marcus Borg and John Shelby Spong claim a religious reformation and paradigm shift is taking place, with Paul Tillich's Ground of Being replacing the theistic image of God. Therefore, the project explores a new theological and philosophical stance integrating psychology, new science, and philosophy with the scriptural and Gnostic teachings of Jesus. This new integral theology draws on the works of evolutionary theologian, Beatrice Bruteau; American philosopher, Ken Wilbur; Psychosynthesis founder, Roberto Assagioli; and the work of Carl Jung. 20 th century theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer's vision of church serving the culture and early 20th century Russian philosopher Vladimir Solovyov vision of divine humanity are presented. These images are similar to St. Maximus the Confessor's vision of "man" as church and the world as Christ's body. St. Symeon the Theologian and Carl Jung describe this process of deconstruction of old self and birth of new self as Christification. Both Assagioli and Canadian philosopher, John deRuiter, explain how to become this true human being through awareness of inner knowing and the self as knowing.
520 $a The project's learning suggests new ministry is not limited to form, but emerges from each genuine interaction lived in spirit and truth as Jesus lived. Leadership for the postmodern church begins with inner transformation and letting go of distortions and self created reality. The Holy Spirit of Truth when recognized, first as tiny inner knowing, and then fully lived, co-creates with God a continually new human Being for a divine humanity in a new Kingdom of God.
