Thesis (M.A.)--Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, 2005.
The purpose of this study was to predict physical activity utilizing the transtheoretical model of behavior change and personality characteristics via the NEO-PI-R. The Stages of Exercise Behavior Questionnaire (Marcus & Owen, 1992) was altered in order to measure pure intention to change rather than current level of physical activity. It was hypothesized that the Big Five personality factors would predict physical activity. Further it was hypothesized that the facets of the Big Five would mediate the relationship between the Big Five factors and physical activity. Overall, the hypotheses of this study were not supported. However, it appears that investigation into the accurate measurement of the transtheoretical model is warranted.
