This creative project includes a written discussion and original linocut prints, which have been reproduced and placed at the back of this document. The written portion is culled from the linocut's one-hundred-year history, roughly corresponding with the advent of modernism, and ending with an examination of the contemporary, postmodern linocut. The social realist linocuts of Elizabeth Catlett and Dr. Eric Avery factor prominently into that discussion.

Contextually, they contrast the homes and lives of three members of the Alonso family (my in-laws) living in Mexico and the United States. This small series of work adheres to the project's main contention, that the linocut is a peculiar medium well-suited for popular expression and social content, even while it has also served, through its formalistic simplicity, power, and integrity, the aims of less politically-minded, mainstream artists.
