The purpose of this study was to compare and evaluate separately the effectiveness of each of the 2 new types of breastfeeding education sessions that were offered at the GP31 appointments of Latino prenatal participants served by the Long Beach W.I.C. program. Specifically, this study investigated the effectiveness by (1) type of breastfeeding education session, and (2) tested participants on their intention to breastfeed, and evaluated intention scores to observe which of the 2 sessions influenced prenatal participants on the decision to breastfeed.

There is a significant difference in breastfeeding knowledge between the participants' pretest and posttest scores, as well as, in intent to breastfeed between the participants' pretest and posttest scores. Although, there is no significant difference in intent to breastfeed between participants who have attended charla sessions and those who have attended one-on-one counseling sessions, the one-on-one sessions (52%) is slightly greater than the charla sessions (38%). This was also found in breastfeeding knowledge, where there is no significant difference in breastfeeding knowledge between participants who have attended charla sessions and those who have attended one-on-one counseling sessions. However, the one-on-one sessions (3.320) showed a slightly greater improvement in scores after the educational session than the charla sessions (3.240).
