520 $a Purpose. We compared 3D conformal radiation therapy (3DCRT), intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), and MammoSite (MMS) based partial breast irradiation (PBI).
520 $a Methods. 15 patients were treated MMS PBI and had CT scans with balloons in both the inflated and deflated states. Plans were developed for each patient using each of the methods of PBI, and then compared using the below dosimetric parameters.
520 $a Results. For the MMS, 3DCRT, and IMRT techniques, the mean V100 was 93.0%, 84.8%, and 93.4% and the mean maximum skin doses were 3543 cGy, 3537 cGy, and 3802 cGy, respectively. The mean contralateral breast V3 was 0%, 5.1% and 3.0%, the mean ipsilateral lung V30 was 5.4%, 6.0%, and 2.2%, and (for the 10 patients with left sided breast tumors) the mean heart V5 was 13.6%, 6.4%, and 1.9%, respectively.
