This study explains the history and background of financial aid, the changing trends in student populations, the greater need for further education and job training for older and non-traditional students, and the obstacles and roadblocks faced by non-traditional college students when dealing with financial aid rules and stipulations. This project demonstrates, that, at present, the non-traditional student faces some financial aid challenges that the traditional college student does not encounter. Non-traditional college students are a growing force in higher education, but the financial aid system, and the higher education system in general, have not yet caught up with their needs.
