The two public school programs which are the focus of these two related papers are the school food program and the school transportation program. Public school food programs and transportation programs can help students succeed and excel in academic learning. These programs are key factors which support providing our youth with a sound base that enables them to achieve more rigorous standards. The school food and transportation programs have become mandatory in public schools and in some instances their costs take funds away from other educational programs. However, with fiscally responsible management, these programs can help students meet rigorous standards by creating a synergy with other essential programs without causing a diversion of the educational dollars. A school food and transportation program that can fiscally support its own expenses will allow schools to direct other budget funds freed up toward educational programs.
