This case study involving the Baton Rouge Community College System is being done to research the effectiveness of transformational leadership training efforts within the community college setting. Vandenberghe (1999) suggests that while there is significant research on the ability of upper level leaders to informally transfer transformational leadership characteristics to lower level leaders, scant attention has been devoted to the ability of formal, structured training programs to positively affect the learning and utilization of transformational leadership characteristics among community college leaders. Fifteen managers within the Baton Rouge Community College System will undergo an intensive eight-week training and development program on transformational leadership and their transformational leadership characteristics will be measured utilizing the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (Bass & Avolio, 1995b).
