Thesis (M.A.)--Duquesne University, 1995.
The purpose of this paper is to examine the question of Do physicians of different specialties have a similar view on the disclosure of information and informed consent and how do they apply these issues to their relationships with patients? Two methods, literature review and original research, were used to examine the research question. Face-to-face interviews were conducted with several physicians in order to gain original data. The results of the research indicated that despite many influencing factors, physicians do appear to be moving away from the paternalistic role, towards a role which permits the patient to be an integral part of his/her own healthcare. Improved communication may be one of the primary factors nurturing this change.Subjects--Topical Terms:
