The purpose of the study was to investigate the difference between learning the fundamentals of drafting using two methods, hand drafting versus computer aided drafting.

A quasi-experimental method using two groups in a counterbalanced design was used. A pre-test was administered to Groups 1 and 2 of a sample drawn from secondary pre-engineering students. Treatment 1, hand drafting, was administered to Group 1 and Treatment 2, computer aided drafting, administered to Group 2. A mid-test and post-test was administered to the entire sample. An analysis of variance of mid-test mean scores showed no significant difference between methods. Due to a concern about the low motivational level of the participants after the mid-test, the post-test was not analyzed.

An instrument was developed for this study and validated by experts. A K-R 20 test showed a high reliability of the instrument (.898). An item analysis was conducted to determine item difficulty and discrimination.
