Thesis (Ph.D.)--Capella University, 2005.
This descriptive, quantitative study explored nursing faculty's attitudes, beliefs, and practices of including caring constructs in the design and implementation of the nursing curricula. The sample (N = 110) consisted of associate degree nursing faculty from Florida's community colleges. An investigator-developed instrument was used for this online survey. The findings revealed (a) that the description of caring in nursing education was more closely aligned with beliefs about the relationship of caring to nursing education than with attitudes about including caring concepts in curriculum design; (b) a high value was placed on the importance of caring affective objectives in curriculum design, yet these objectives were infrequently integrated into the curriculum; and (c) infrequent hierarchical ordering of caring affective objectives in curriculum design. Surprisingly, years of teaching experience was not associated with the use of caring affective objectives or the hierarchical leveling of these objectives. Implications for nursing education and recommendations for future research were offered.
