Thesis (Psy.D.)--Adler School of Professional Psychology, 2005.
The study examined the issue of recidivism rates for an outpatient, community-based, sexual offender treatment program. Ninety-seven adult male subjects that were court ordered into treatment between October of 1996 and October of 2002 were tracked through the use of court records for recidivism for sexual crimes. Results supported that the program's overall recidivism rate of 19% was comparable to published rates of similar treatment programs. The sample was separated into 3 groups based on treatment status in order to examine the relationship between treatment status and recidivism. Evidence of a treatment effect was established through the demonstration of a statistically significant relationship between recidivism and completion status ( x2 = 16.794, df = 2, p < 0.001; Cramer's Phi = 0.416). The sample was separated into 2 groups based on the presence or absence of external supervision within the treatment groups in order to examine the relationship between the presence of external supervision and recidivism. There was no evidence of a statistically significant relationship between the presence of external supervision and recidivism. Marital status was examined for its relationship to recidivism due to the fact that it is the only demographic variable related to recidivism by research, and there was no statistically significant relationship evidenced by this sample.
