Thesis (Ph.D.)--University of Central Florida, 2000.

The current study tested a model of the relationships between team and task experience, collective efficacy, team knowledge, team processes, and team performance. Participants were 80 two-person teams recruited from tennis organizations and a college campus in a southeastern city. The experimental task was the game tennis doubles. Team and task experience, collective efficacy, and team knowledge were assessed via questionnaires. Participants completed the questionnaires and then played two sets of tennis. Team processes were assessed by evaluation of videotapes of the match, and team performance was the percentage of points won during the match. Hierarchical regression analysis results indicated that team familiarity was positively related to shared knowledge of rules and responsibilities, and shared knowledge of rules and responsibilities was significantly related to two team processes: implicit coordination and team discussion. Significant relationships between collective efficacy, team process, and team performance did not appear.
