Thesis (Ph.D.)--Capella University, 2005.
With the current nursing shortages, nursing educators are called upon to reduce nurse staffing needs by expanding access to more learners. Educators should consider all resources, including Web-based instruction. The two community colleges studied possess the necessary equipment to offer Web-based instruction, yet each one's nursing program has not fully embraced this method. The majority of nursing faculty members interviewed were aware of the need to increase enrollment. Their major obstacle was not understanding how to effectively use the available technological equipment. The majority of these respondents stated that they did not have the time to spend learning how to use the technology in addition to managing their current workloads. While the majority of respondents are motivated to improve access to learners, many doubt their ability to competently create, design, and implement an effective Web-based course. Many felt that the college offered technological resources, but they were not afforded compensated release time to adequately prepare themselves to integrate Web-based instruction into the nursing program.
